In the late 1960s the Swiss artist Olivier Mosset (b. 1944/CH) was concerned with questions of appropriation whilst involved with the radical group BMPT (Buren, Mosset, Parmentier, Toroni) in 1968. They were polemically committed to making a radical break with the painting of the École de Paris, which was dominant at the time, and with Abstract Expressionism. They wanted to question painting with their own resources and create 'worthless' objects, so that they could neutralize the work of art, make it anonymous, and ultimately cause it to disappear. Today, however, Mosset is far more intrigued with another issue – whether it’s still possible to create anti-illuisionist paintings, free from content. He moves from the unsubstantial nature of monochromy to the realm of factuality.
