THOMAS WACHHOLZ: WHITEOUT

25. April - 12. July 2015
Opening on Saturday, 25. April 2015 from 18 - 20h

Nymphius Projekte cordially invites to the opening of its new space at Bayerischer Platz 5, 10799 Berlin with an exhibition by Thomas Wachholz (*1984/DE). WHITEOUT is the artist's first exhibition in Berlin. The opening takes place on Saturday, 25. April 2015 from 18-20h.

WHITEOUT is a natural condition, found in polar regions, in which uniform illumination from snow on the ground and from a low cloud layer makes features of the landscape indistinguishable, causing a loss of orientation. WHITEOUT also refers to Thomas Wachholz technique of whiting out the colour on the canvas with ethanol.

The exhibition will comprise a series of large format digital paintings printed in black, which are then erased with ethanol. This very slow procedure dissolves the printed surface, pushing the painting to indefinite, immaterial grounds. Despite the rigid concept and its serial effectuation, infinite outcomes are possible, no work is like the other. Situated one to one another, the paintings create a space of their own.
